Exactly 80 years ago today, the "Rescue Train" set out, led by my grandfather, Chief Rabbi Yitzchak Isaac HaLevi Herzog zt"l, which saved hundreds of Jewish children in Europe after the Holocaust. This week, I was deeply moved from the bottom of my heart to meet David Danieli, a Holocaust survivor and one of the "Rabbi Herzog's Children's Train" children. David lost many members of his family in the Holocaust and survived as a young child through the war years by a miracle, under horrific conditions of suffering and with the aid of a family of Righteous Among the Nations, under a false identity that concealed his Jewishness. After the war, he became one of the "Rabbi Herzog's Children," and made aliyah to the Land of Israel aboard the illegal immigrant ship "Exodus - Departure from Europe 5707." After a long, grueling, and tumultuous journey, he arrived in the State of Israel with its establishment, rehabilitated himself, and built a splendid life and family here.
