Several schools in Colorado, Florida and Georgia will open the new academic year with an active-shooter response system that has never been deployed in a US school before: drones. The system, called Campus Guardian Angel, is built by Mithril Defense, an Austin, Texas company that has been testing whether drones can work alongside law enforcement to stop a school shooter faster than a police response alone. The drones sit in secure boxes inside the school and can be launched within seconds.
