When asked by NY1's Errol Louis about the Oct. 7 attack on Israel, Mayor Zohran Mamdani called the attack "a horrific war crime" committed by Hamas. He also described Israel's response as "a genocide of Palestinians in Gaza." "The lesson for all of us is that humanity has to be something that we believe in its fullest sense. We have to protect it," the mayor said. “We have to be able to call an atrocity what it is and fight for a future where everyone is protected, no matter who they are, where they come from.”
