Judge Dismisses Trump Administration Suit Seeking New Jersey Voter Data; Justice Department Will Appeal A federal judge has dismissed a Trump administration lawsuit seeking access to extensive personal information about New Jersey voters, ruling against the U.S. Department of Justice’s effort to obtain sensitive voter registration data, including home addresses, driver’s license numbers, birth dates, partial Social Security numbers and other personal information. The lawsuit, United States v. Caldwell, challenged New Jersey’s refusal to provide the requested records, arguing the information was needed to enforce federal election laws. State officials maintained that the request exceeded federal legal authority and threatened the privacy of millions of registered voters.
