Nineteen homes have been “fully destroyed” in Stourbridge as firefighters tackle multiple West Midlands blazes. Prime Minister Andy Burnham called the fires “utterly devastating” and warned that the country is a “tinderbox”. The situation has “vastly improved”, although crews continue to tackle hotspots. Fifty-four people were treated across eight fires on Thursday, including 19 who were taken to hospital. Residents have returned to their destroyed homes, describing flames spreading rapidly through trees and thick smoke. Disposable barbecues have also been temporarily banned.
