*SALFORD:* Salford Council found that nearly every one of 91 unregistered HMOs inspected failed to meet safety standards, with more than 1,000 hazards identified. These included 161 risks to tenants’ health and wellbeing. One property had a timer-controlled boiler, leaving tenants unable to control their heating and causing “excessive cold”.The council said it would introduce tougher licensing measures, while requiring landlords to tackle anti-social behaviour and keep properties and surrounding areas free of litter.
