Prime Minister Netanyahu is expected to make an unusually brief visit to New York on Thursday, arriving in the city, addressing the UN General Assembly and returning to Israel the same day, without spending the night in the United States. According to a report in Israel, Netanyahu’s office says the unusually short trip is due to security concerns over a potential attempt to harm the prime minister while he is in New York. It remains unclear whether those concerns are based on specific intelligence. The U.S. Secret Service is also reportedly playing an unusually extensive role in preparations for Netanyahu’s visit.
