New information emerged Tuesday indicating that Israel's Education Ministry authorized the school trip in northern Israel that ended in a deadly explosion despite earlier warnings that the hiking area was closed. The Jewish National Fund had reportedly informed authorities that the trail remained restricted because of war-related damage.
KKL-JNF officials said the closure had been communicated to the ministry's trip coordination system. The Education Ministry maintained that the approved hiking route did not enter the prohibited area.
