The U.S. Air Force is considering ordering newly upgraded F-16 fighter jets from Lockheed Martin, which would mark its first purchase of new F-16s in 21 years, Air & Space Forces reports, citing multiple officials familiar with the matter.
The proposed aircraft, dubbed the “F-16G” by officials, could feature an upgraded electronic warfare system and other capabilities surpassing both the Air Force’s existing F-16Cs and the newer F-16V export variant.
