Australian police are sharply increasing security ahead of Chanukah, deploying a new 250-member unit armed with assault rifles to protect Jewish events and shuls a year after the Bondi Beach terror attack. Only a handful of officers were on hand at the Bondi Chanukah celebration in December 2025.
Fifteen people, including a 10-year-old girl and an 87-year-old Holocaust survivor, were murdered when a father-and-son pair opened fire at the event. Survivor Arsen Ostrovsky said the measures "have become necessary to protect not only the Jewish community, but all Australians."
