U.S. intelligence officials say Russia is targeting the 2026 midterm elections with a new covert online influence campaign aimed at amplifying political divisions and undermining confidence in the electoral process, The New York Times reports.
Officials said there is no evidence Russia is attempting to compromise voting machines or the voting process itself, and the effort so far appears less extensive and coordinated than previous Russian election influence campaigns.
