🇮🇱 ELECTION PANEL BARS ABU SHEHADEH AND CASSIF - Israel’s Central Elections Committee just disqualified Balad chairman islamist Sami Abu Shehadeh and Hadash-Ta’al MK Ofer Cassif from running in the Oct. 27 Knesset election. - The committee said Abu Shehadeh supported armed struggle and denied Israel’s existence as a Jewish and democratic state, citing an Oct. 8, 2023 article that called the October 7th attack “an important historic event.” Cassif was barred after a Likud petition alleging he denied Israel’s character as a Jewish and democratic state. He called the move politically motivated. - Both decisions now go to the High Court of Justice for review before they can take effect.
