France has moved to defuse a diplomatic dispute with the U.S., apologizing after a French UN post declared: “The US used to be a beacon of human rights. Not anymore.”
The dispute led Washington to block the appointment of France’s new ambassador to the U.S. and walk out of a UN Security Council meeting when France’s ambassador spoke. France has now sought to ease tensions, saying the disagreement involved “a single vote” and does not undermine the countries’ historic alliance.
