NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani announced that New York City is leading a coalition suing the federal government over its new “public charge” rule, which expands the government’s ability to consider immigrants’ reliance on public benefits when making immigration decisions. The coalition includes Chicago, San Francisco, Seattle, Santa Clara County and King County. Mamdani called the rule illegal and declared, “Immigrants are New Yorkers,” adding, “To get to any of us, you will have to get through all of us.”
