Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado is preparing to return to Venezuela from exile in Panama and push for new presidential elections, despite concerns among some Trump administration officials that her return could complicate Washington’s relationship with the U.S.-backed interim government, The Wall Street Journal reports.
Machado, who intends to run in a future election, plans to travel across Venezuela rebuilding her political network. “I cannot lead the process from abroad,” she said, adding that she is prepared to return “by land, sea, or air,” though no date has been set.
