Eyal Zamir warned that Israel must always be prepared for a surprise war, drawing a direct lesson from the failures of the Yom Kippur War and October 7. “Two painful shortcomings, two failures, with a connecting thread between them,” Zamir said during an exercise of the IDF’s new 38th Division. “Reality is constantly sending us signals, and it is our duty to identify those signals, listen to them and constantly adapt.”
