Vice President JD Vance personally contacted senior U.S. military commanders during the spring and summer for their unfiltered assessments of the Iran war. Commanders warned that critical U.S. munitions were being heavily depleted, with one theater down to fewer than 100 Patriot interceptors by late spring, The New York Times reported. They also assessed that Iran was proving more resilient than expected and prepared to absorb major losses. Vance brought those concerns to President Trump as he became increasingly involved in efforts to end the war.
