Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi said he will leave office in 2030 and will not seek another constitutional amendment to extend his presidency.
“2030 will be the end of my presidency. This is a matter that has been decided completely,” Sisi said Saturday at a ceremony at Egypt’s Military Academy. Sisi has led Egypt since 2014. A 2019 constitutional amendment extended his term through 2030, drawing criticism from opponents who said it further concentrated power in the presidency.
