Saudi Arabia stopped issuing public warnings of incoming missile and drone attacks just days before four Houthi strikes on Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport killed at least 18 people and injured more than 300. Saudi officials claim that the alerts were too disruptive, with residents complaining about being awakened at night, Reuters reports.
The Saudi government has not publicly explained the decision. The lack of warnings during the deadly attacks has raised serious concerns among Western and Arab officials about the kingdom’s ability to protect residents and visitors. Public threat alerts resumed on Monday.
