Britain's MI5 intelligence chief warned Tuesday that Iran is expanding efforts to target sensitive military installations in the United Kingdom, while Russia is intensifying sabotage and covert operations across Europe. MI5 issued the warning following the disclosure of a suspected Iranian-directed plot involving RAF Fairford, an air base used by the U.S. McCallum described Russia as Britain's principal state threat and warned that artificial intelligence could eventually assist terrorist organizations in developing dangerous biological weapons. He said MI5's resources devoted to state-backed threats have quadrupled over the past decade.
