🇪🇺🇱🇧 — EU Launches Support Mission to Bolster Lebanese Security Forces
- The European Union has established the EU Support Mission in Lebanon (EUSM Lebanon), a three-year dual-pillar effort to strengthen the Lebanese Armed Forces and Internal Security Forces.
- The military pillar will train the LAF on border and maritime security, intelligence and reconnaissance, and counter-smuggling. The civilian pillar will work with the ISF on cybercrime, domestic smuggling, and port security, including at Beirut.
- The mission is framed around UN Resolution 1701 and restoring state authority. More than ten EU states have pledged personnel. It coordinates with the UN and other partners and sits alongside European Peace Facility aid.
