At least 64 people have been killed and 80 others injured after two high-speed trains collided in central Spain earlier today, authorities confirmed. The crash occurred near Urda, south of Madrid, when a high-speed passenger train slammed into the rear of another train that had stopped on the tracks, sending several carriages off the rails and down an embankment.
More than 500 passengers were aboard the two trains. Emergency crews are searching through the wreckage for additional victims, while high-speed rail services between Madrid and southern Spain have been suspended. The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
