China has formally removed two of its most senior military officials, Zhang Youxia and Liu Zhenli, from the state Central Military Commission following investigations into serious disciplinary and legal violations.
Zhang, formerly the commission’s senior vice-chairman and China’s highest-ranking uniformed officer, and Liu, the former chief of the CMC Joint Staff Department, had been under investigation since January. Their removal leaves just two active members on the body, including President Xi Jinping.
