President Trump on Tuesday moved to bar Canadian products from large, long-term U.S. government contracts as Canada’s retaliatory tariffs on roughly $20 billion worth of American goods took effect, the AP reports. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney vowed to accelerate efforts to reduce Canada’s reliance on the U.S., declaring that the era of depending heavily on a single economic partner “is over.” Canada is also exploring significantly deeper economic ties with the European Union.
