The U.S. Senate blocked a landmark cryptocurrency regulation bill in a procedural vote Tuesday, dealing a major setback to the crypto industry less than two months before the midterm elections. The measure needed 60 votes to advance.
Democrats objected to ethics provisions involving President Trump’s crypto interests, while the legislation would have given the Commodity Futures Trading Commission primary authority over the digital-assets industry and established new consumer safeguards.
