Former U.S. Army Chief of Staff Gen. Randy George warned in December 2025 that American Patriot and THAAD missile defense stockpiles were critically low and could remain insufficient until at least 2030, months before the war with Iran began, according to CBS News.
George was removed from his position by Secretary of War Pete Hegseth in April, while the Iran war was underway. The shortages were attributed to weapons supplied to Ukraine, missiles used to defend Israel, and limited U.S. manufacturing capacity. The war with Iran further depleted supplies, while the Pentagon denies claims that the U.S. is facing munitions shortages.
