A major Pentagon data breach exposed sensitive information belonging to more than 2.7 million living people, including Social Security numbers and details about their military or civilian employment. Information belonging to approximately 294,000 deceased individuals was also compromised, ABC News reports. The unauthorized access to the Defense Manpower Data Center stretched from October 2025 until the vulnerability was discovered and fixed in July 2026. Officials have found no evidence so far that the compromised information was misused, and those affected are being offered identity-protection and credit-monitoring services.
