More U.S. service members have been killed in the Middle East during the ongoing war with Iran than the Pentagon has publicly disclosed, with six U.S. officials citing internal casualty figures higher than the official count, The Washington Post reports.
Five officials put the death toll at at least 22, while another said 23 service members have died since February 28. The Pentagon’s public casualty database currently lists 18 deaths, and officials declined to explain the discrepancy or identify the additional fatalities.
