The Yerushalayim District Court on Wednesday handed prison terms to four people convicted in a bribery scheme at the Ras Biddu checkpoint, where Border Police officers took thousands of shekels to let vehicles carrying illegal Palestinian entrants pass without inspection during the war.
The judge wrote that deviating from inspection instructions "at a sensitive checkpoint in wartime harmed the defense mechanism and public trust." The two civilians who paid the bribes received 17 months each, while the officer who took a bribe was sentenced to seven months.
