Ted Cruz met Somaliland President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi on Capitol Hill in Washington, with the two discussing Somaliland’s push for international recognition and expanded U.S. cooperation on security, trade and regional stability. Cruz has been a leading advocate in the Senate for U.S. recognition of Somaliland, formally urging President Trump in 2025 to recognize it as an independent state and describing Somaliland as an important U.S. security and diplomatic partner in the Horn of Africa.
