American and Chinese security experts are proposing nuclear-style safeguards for artificial intelligence, including keeping AI systems out of nuclear launch decisions and maintaining human control over critical military cyber operations. The proposals also include establishing a direct U.S.-China hotline for serious AI-related incidents, aimed at preventing an accident or malfunction involving increasingly powerful AI systems from triggering a military confrontation.
