A massive wildfire in British Columbia has forced more than 20,000 people from their homes, prompting the province to declare a state of emergency as the blaze tore through areas around Summerland and Peachland. Homes have been destroyed, and some residents trapped by the rapidly advancing flames had to be rescued. The Bald Range wildfire has grown to more than 10,000 hectares, with hot, dry and windy conditions complicating firefighting efforts. Canadian authorities say federal assistance is being provided as crews continue battling the fire.
