Russia has freed former U.S. Marine Robert Gilman, who had been imprisoned since 2022, after President Vladimir Putin approved a pardon on humanitarian grounds following intense negotiations between U.S. and Russian officials. Gilman, 32, was released Tuesday and was being flown to Washington Dulles Airport on a U.S. State Department plane. U.S. officials said no Russian prisoners were exchanged for his release, calling it a “goodwill gesture.” He is expected to undergo medical evaluation before being flown to a rehabilitation center in San Antonio, Texas.
