New FBI documents reveal that Thomas Crooks’ father described his son as quiet, difficult to read and occasionally destructive when bored. As Crooks’ interest in firearms grew, he once asked whether buying his father’s Glock would require a background check—a question his father found “odd.” His family said they never saw signs that he would attempt to assassinate President Trump. Crooks opened fire at Trump’s Butler rally on July 13, 2024, killing Corey Comperatore and seriously wounding two others before he was killed by a Secret Service counter-sniper.
