A former Ukrainian special forces officer went on trial in Germany over the 2022 explosions that destroyed sections of the Nord Stream gas pipelines beneath the Baltic Sea. German prosecutors accuse Sergiy Kuznietsov of participating in the sabotage operation targeting pipelines built to carry Russian natural gas to Europe. The explosions caused massive gas leaks and rendered the pipelines inoperable. Ukraine has denied that its government was involved.
