Iran’s IRGC Navy says a container ship carrying more than 2,500 shipping containers sank in the southern Strait of Hormuz on Wednesday morning after striking a naval mine while traveling through what it described as an unauthorized and dangerous route. The mine reportedly triggered an explosion and fire before the vessel sank. Iranian authorities warned nearby ships and fishermen to exercise extreme caution as floating shipping containers now pose a serious navigation hazard in the area.
