Gaza’s private-sector merchants have announced that they are suspending coordination of commercial shipments into the territory until further notice following threats and forced taxation demands by Hamas, according to Israel’s COGAT. Hamas is reportedly demanding approximately NIS 10,000 per incoming truck and requiring 30% of goods to be sold for cash. Private-sector shipments account for roughly half of the trucks entering Gaza each week, and their suspension could significantly disrupt commercial supplies.
