The U.S. Mint will begin producing a new $1 coin featuring President Trump's likeness as part of the nation's 250th anniversary celebrations, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced. The coin, which has a gold-like finish but is made from non-precious metals, is already in production and is expected to be available this fall. Under the administration's interpretation of a 2020 law authorizing special Semiquincentennial coin designs, the Treasury says the coin is permitted despite longstanding restrictions on depicting living individuals on U.S. currency.
