A Netzach Yehuda soldier from a chareidi background was sentenced to 10 days in military prison and removed from combat duty after he was caught smoking a cigarette on Shabbos, Kan News reports. The soldier is about a month away from completing his IDF service after more than two years of fighting in Gaza and Lebanon. Those close to the soldier called the punishment “disproportionate.” Following Kan’s report, the IDF said the punishment had been suspended before publication. However, Kan said no official had informed him that the punishment had been suspended.
