Hate crimes in New York City soared over the last year, fueled by attacks against Jewish people — even as the Big Apple boasted the safest summer on record, according to new crime statistics released by the NYPD. The new data, released Thursday just weeks ahead of Jewish high holidays of Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, revealed that overall hate crimes jumped by 15.8% compared to last year — 425 in 2026 vs. 367 in 2025. Anti-Jewish offenses specifically have jumped by 8% and accounted for more than half of the confirmed hate crimes within the first eight months of this year, despite Jewish New Yorkers only accounting for about 10% of the Big Apple’s population.
