In 1776, someone tried to sink a warship with a one-man submarine. *It was an acorn-shaped wooden submarine called the Turtle.* David Bushnell built it from oak and iron hoops. The driver was meant to dive, attach a bomb to the hull and escape. The attack failed, but it was the first combat submarine. Not bad for a Yale student.
