Tesla's Model S Plaid uses the first production electric motor with a carbon-wrapped rotor — a thin sleeve of carbon fiber wound around the copper rotor that lets it spin up to 20,000 rpm. The result is more power from a smaller, lighter motor. Elon Musk has called it "arguably the most advanced motor on Earth."
