One of Brooklyn's most dangerous streets is getting a major redesign. Seventeen people have died on Third Avenue in Sunset Park in the past decade, and the city plans to cut 2.1 miles of it from as many as eight lanes to four, adding protected bike lanes and shorter crosswalks. Work on the stretch from 62nd to 43rd streets begins next year, with the section up to 20th Street following in 2028.
