Israel: The IDF believes the two Palestinian terrorists behind this morning’s shooting attack near Hebron had originally planned to carry out a mass-casualty attack against Israeli civilians travelling on Route 35. According to a preliminary military investigation, the terrorists arrived by car at around 7.30am but encountered a temporary army checkpoint, preventing them from reaching their intended targets. They instead opened fire on soldiers at the checkpoint, triggering a gun battle that lasted more than 20 minutes before Israeli officers flanked and killed both attackers. A large quantity of ammunition was later discovered in their vehicle, leading the IDF to believe that the checkpoint prevented a potentially much deadlier attack on civilians.
