Mayor Zohran Mamdani on Wednesday appointed Anthony E. Shorris, a former deputy mayor and McKinsey partner, as president of the city’s Economic Development Corporation, while naming former FTC Chair Lina Khan as chair of its board. The appointments appear aimed at balancing business concerns with Mamdani’s push to shift the agency toward “economic justice.” Speaking at City Hall, Mamdani said economic development and economic justice “must go hand in hand,” adding, “This is no radical concept.”
