An NYPD officer was hospitalized after an illegal drag racing street takeover turned violent early Saturday morning near Knapp Street and Avenue W in the Gerritsen Beach area. Police say officers responded to reports of drag racing, reckless driving, donut spins, and fireworks when one of the vehicles rear-ended a marked NYPD patrol car. The driver then allegedly exited the vehicle, slashed one of the patrol car's tires with a sharp object, climbed onto the hood, smashed the passenger-side window, and fled the scene. One officer was transported to a hospital in stable condition, and police are continuing to search for the suspect.
