The Department of Buildings has finalized new rules aimed at getting sidewalk scaffolding removed faster. Property owners will now have to renew permits every 90 days and report progress on repairs, while buildings that leave sheds up without active work could face increasing monthly fines after 180 days. The city is also considering six new, more modern scaffolding designs to replace the traditional green plywood sheds.
