Karyopharm Therapeutics is a cancer-fighting pharmaceutical company that makes an FDA-approved drug called Xpovio to treat rare blood cancers. Unfortunately, they ran out of cash to fund their business, accumulated a massive $1.8 billion deficit, and just filed for bankruptcy after a key clinical trial failed and left them unable to pay off $441.5 million in debt. Because of this, their stock completely crashed by over 83% down to just 11 cents, and it is absolutely not worth buying—despite what hype on Robinhood might tell you. In a bankruptcy merger like this, the current "old" shares are almost always completely canceled and wiped out to zero, meaning if you buy the stock right now, you are highly likely to lose 100% of your money.
